Trump met with Putin but did not raise the subject of Russian election interference, which was the focus of a two-year investigation recently concluded by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Trump said he enjoyed a "very, very good relationship" with Putin, noting "many positive things are going to come out of the relationship," CNN reported.

"We have many things to discuss, including trade and some disarmament, some little protectionism, in a very positive way," Trump told reporters.

As reporters shouted questions about whether he would warn Putin not to meddle in future elections, Trump said, "Of course I will."

As reporters continued to shout questions as they were being ushered out of the room, the president smirked and pointed at Putin, saying "Don't meddle in the election," as he grinned, the Post reported.

Trump declined to give specifics about what he might say to Putin about election meddling, or whether he would even pose the question, CNN reported.

"What I say to him is none of your business," Trump said.
