A 2-year-old boy is dead after authorities said he ran onto a highway and was hit by a three-wheeled motorcycle.

According to the Chillicothe Gazette, the incident occurred about noon Wednesday on U.S. 50 in Chillicothe, the Ohio State Patrol said.

Police said the toddler ran onto the highway in front of motorcyclist Darrell R. Ankrom, 69, of Washington Court House.

Ankrom's 2015 Harley-Davidson struck the boy, who was taken to a nearby hospital and died. Ankrom was not hurt, the Gazette reported.

Police are still investigating the crash. No further information was immediately available.
