A toddler girl is dead after police said she was left in a hot van outside a New Jersey rail station as temperatures climbed into the upper 80s.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, police responded to the Lindenwold PATCO station parking lot Friday after a 911 caller reported seeing a girl in a hot vehicle about 3:38 p.m. Authorities arrived to find the 22-month-old "unresponsive in her car seat with the passenger window broken," a news release said.
Minutes later, she was pronounced dead, officials said.
Family members returned to the vehicle about 5:30 p.m. and appeared to be distraught, KYW-TV reported.
So far, authorities have not filed charges in the incident, which is still under investigation, prosecutors said.
