1. Video released: A video of a Chicago police officer shooting a black teenager was released to the public Tuesday night. The dashboard video shows Jason Van Dyke shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times. Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 20, 2014 incident. As the video went viral, crowds gathered in several places in Chicago, many chanting "16 shots." According to authorities, Van Dyke confronted McDonald, pulled his weapon and shot the teenager all within 30 seconds.
Texas congressman Lamar Smith (R), chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space
and Technology, has issued subpoenas to scientists to turn over emails related to global climate change research. The subpoenas were served on scientists who work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. According to Smith, the subpoenaed scientists' findings contradicted early findings that appeared to show global warming had paused. Smith received a letter Tuesday from seven scientific organizations representing thousands of scientists telling him that “establishing a practice of inquests” would have a detrimental effect on scientific research.
: Bindi Irwin and partner Derek Hough took home the mirror-ball trophy Tuesday night when they won top honors in season 21 of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Irwin is the daughter of the late Steve Irwin, the “Crocodile Hunter."
: Paris authorities say they foiled an attack that was only hours from taking place when they raided an apartment in the Saint-Denis region of the city. According to police, Abdelhamid Abaaoud and another man were planning a suicide attack on the Paris financial district of La Defense. The two men were killed in the raid.
: According to Russia's ambassador to France, a Russian pilot shot out of the sky Tuesday over Turkey has been rescued by the Syrian army. Alexander Orlov told Europe 1 radio the pilot had been recovered by the Syrians and taken to a Russian base. A second pilot in the plane and a marine involved in the rescue efforts were killed. Two F-16 jets shot down the plane after authorities in Turkey say it flew into the country's airspace and, despite warnings, would not leave.
