What to know now:

1. Russian plane shot down: Russian military officials have confirmed that one of its fighter jets was shot down by Turkey Tuesday near that country's border with Syria.  According to Turkish officials, the jet's pilot was warned 10 times that it was in Turkey's airspace before two F-16s engaged the warplane and shot it  down. Reports say the Russian pilots ejected before the plane crashed.

2. Teen seeking millions: A Texas teen who was arrested after a homemade clock he  took to school was mistaken for a bomb, is asking for $15 million, saying he was publicly mistreated. Attorneys for Ahmed Mohamed, 14, sent letters Monday demanding $10 million from the city of Irving, Texas, and $5 million from its school district, saying what  happened when their  client was arrested was "inexcusable."

3. Officer in court: A Chicago  police officer who shot and killed a 16-year-old last year will be indicted in the teen's  death Tuesday, according to reports. Jason Van Dyke, who is white, will face first-degree murder charges in the death of African American teen Laquan McDonald. Van Dyke shot McDonald on Oct. 20, 2014. Dashboard camera  video that shows the event is set to be released as early as Tuesday.

4. Travel warning: Amid concerns over possible terror attacks, the United States has issued a travel alert for Americans planning to leave the country. The State Department warned that terror organizations like ISIS "continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions. …These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics, using conventional and non-conventional weapons and targeting both official and private interests," the department warned.

5. Five shot in Minneapolis: Five people were shot near the site of an ongoing protest in Minneapolis Monday night. The shootings happened a block from where protesters have been demonstrating for nearly two weeks over the shooting of Jamar Clark by a Minneapolis police officer. All of those shot are expected to recover.

Four Republican presidential candidates will each get 12 minutes of free time on NBC affiliates in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina this weekend after they complained that GOP candidate Donald Trump unfairly benefited from his hosting duties on "Saturday Night Live" earlier this month. James Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee and John Kasich each will get the time the network's affiliates, according to a deal announced by NBC.
