A 14-year-old Texas boy mistakenly shot and killed himself as he and his friends played with a gun they didn't realize was loaded, authorities said.
According to KTXS, the deadly shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. Friday while Jaeden Livingston, of Abilene, was at a friend's house with two other boys, who are 15 and 16 years old.
"The mother who lives in the home where all three boys were assembled left the residence," Abilene police Chief Stan Standridge told reporters Sunday, KTAB reported. "Her son was aware of a firearm that was kept by the mother."
The teens retrieved the gun and began handing it to each other, Standridge said. That's when Livingston pointed the weapon at his head and fired, according to the news outlets. He died the next morning at a Fort Worth hospital.
Abilene police said the friend's mother could face charges in the incident, KTXS and KTAB reported.
