A teenager is in custody in San Francisco after jumping from a moving Boeing 737 on the tarmac at San Francisco International Airport on Tuesday, authorities said.

It happened right after the plane from Panama City landed and was taxiing down the runway around 2:30 p.m.

The 17-year-old boy opened an emergency exit door on the Copa Airlines jet, as horrified passengers watched in stunned disbelief, before jumping onto the wing of the plane and sliding to the ground, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The teenager, an American traveling alone, according to a police statement, ran across the airfield and was caught by a construction crew until San Francisco officers arrived.

It’s unclear what charges, if any, the teen might face.

The flight crew closed the exit door, and the plane continued to its gate without any more trouble.
