Paul Peterson III, 22, said thieves stole his clothing, championship medals and his running blades from his apartment.
His legs, as he calls them, refer to his running blades.
The Team USA track and field Paralympic sprinter has been preparing for an upcoming race. His training has been put to a halt, however, as he will not be able to train until he gets them back.
"Three running legs! Took all my national championship medals. I mean you know medals, that I had just from over the years,” Peterson said Thursday.
“Every leg is made for a specific event or, you know, just for the person,” he said.
Peterson was shocked to find his apartment had been broken into.
"Just walking in and seeing (everything) gone, I was just, like, just hoping that those medals was still there,” Peterson said.
He was not expecting his legs to be gone.
“Obviously nobody else can use them. Most people don't know what they are,” he said.
Peterson said this is like fuel to the fire for his next race. He wants to win so he can collect more medals to replace the ones that were stolen.
“The medals are way more valuable to me than they would be with that individual or those people,” Peterson said.
He showed Channel 9 two jerseys he has remaining after the break-in. The National Championships are in Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 26.
