Authorities in New York have issued a subpoena to President Donald Trump’s former longtime attorney, Michael Cohen, as part of the criminal investigation into the Donald J. Trump Foundation, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.
A spokesman for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tax department confirmed the subpoena Wednesday to the AP.
It came on the same day Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that his client has information that he thought “would be of interest” to state and federal investigators.
“Michael Cohen is going to be telling the truth to whoever asks him,” Davis said.
In an appearance on CNN, Davis added that, "Michael Cohen, being a lawyer for Donald Trump for many, many years, knows almost everything about Mr. Trump."
The subpoena was issued one day after Cohen pleaded guilty in federal court to tax evasion and a campaign-finance violation. He also implicated the president in a hush-money scheme aimed at silencing two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump years before he was elected to office.
Trump has denied that he had affairs with the women.
In a separate case, New York’s attorney general filed suit in June against the Trump Foundation and its directors, including the president and three of his children, alleging the foundation was inappropriately used for self-gain.
