In early November, a Canadian man traveling from London to Singapore managed to go over his Wi-Fi plan to the tune of $1,171
Jeremy Gutsche, CEO of innovation consulting company Trend Hunter, had purchased a $29 Wi-Fi package for his 12-hour flight but had no idea that the overage costs would be so high. He claims in his blog that he only had around 155 page views (including email) and didn't watch any streaming video.
"So what does it take to rack up $1200 of Internet use? In my case, just 155 page views, mostly to my email. I know this because for the first time I counted up my page views to see where all the dollars went. I wish I could blame an addiction to NetFlix or some intellectual documentary that made me $1,200 smarter," Gutsche noted in on his Trendhunter blog.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Gutsche is responsible for the full amount.
