Starbucks is recalling stainless-steel straws sold online and at stores nationwide after three people reported that young children suffered "mouth lacerations" while using them.
The Seattle-based company said 2.5 million straws were sold in the United States and 301,000 others were sold in Canada. They are all under recall because the straws "are rigid and can poke children in the mouth, posing a risk of injury," according to a recall notice released Tuesday.
Starbucks recommends the straws be kept away from children to avoid injury.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the straws were sold from June 2012 to June 2016 as part of packages with two separate sizes of stainless steel cups: the 16-ounce Grande and 24-ounce Venti cups. The cups with straws sold for between $11 and $30
They were also sold in sets of three and cost about $6.
The straws have a ridge at the bottom that keeps them attached to a cup's lid. They were made in China, according to CPSC.
