The South Miami man who is accused of killing his wife and posting a picture of her body on Facebook headed to trial today.

Derek Medina, 33, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the past and faces life in prison, if convicted, for allegedly killing his wife and posting a picture of the body on Facebook, the Miami Herald reports. The incident happened in August 2013 when prosecutors said Medina got into an argument with his wife, 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso.

According to the Herald, Medina and Alfonso got into an argument in the kitchen of their South Miami townhouse when Medina allegedly went upstairs and grabbed a pistol and came back to confront her. Detectives said Medina told them “he disarmed her of a kitchen knife” and put it back before firing “six to eight times” at Alfonso.

Following the shooting, prosecutors said Medina posted a photo of the body on Facebook with the caption, “I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care. Facebook people you’ll see me in the news.”

The Herald reports Medina has never denied the shooting with the 33-year-old turning himself in following the incident. Defense lawyers have portrayed Medina as “a psychologically bruised victim” and “the husband of a ‘diva’ who brooded about hurting him and calling him ‘the woman’ in their relationship,” the Herald added.
