Some retailers will avoid opening on Thanksgiving

Pre-Black Friday sales have been common in recent years, with shoppers scurrying to stores after Thanksgiving dinner. But several retailers are vowing not to begin one of the biggest retail sales days of the year on Thanksgiving Day.

The decision guarantees that their staffs will get to spend the holiday at home.

Bestblackfriday.com released a complete list of retailers who are deciding not to be open on Thanksgiving. The retailers include department stores like Dillard's, Marshalls, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom's; home improvement outlets like Lowe's, Home Depot, HomeGoods; and members-only warehouses like Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club.

Some stores will open as early as 5 a.m. on Black Friday.
