An in-air emergency made for a frightening flight for the 89 passengers aboard a Delta flight traveling from Fort Lauderdale to New York.
According to news reports, a problem with one of the MD-80's twin engines cause smoke to fill the cabin.
Alarms went off and the flight crew ordered passengers to place their head in their laps, where the air would be fresher.
A passenger tweeted an image of the smoke-filled cabin, commenting that it was the “scariest flight ever.”
The plane landed safely in Charleston, South Carolina.
Delta treated the shaken and stranded passengers to pizza while waiting for a replacement plane.
Passengers arrived at their destination approximately four hours late.
