The mother of an 8-year-old Santa Cruz girl who was murdered just days ago invited the community Friday to howl at the blue moon in honor of her daughter, who loved wolves.
An event called "Howl for Maddy" was actually scheduled for Friday night at the Tannery Arts Center where the girl lived with her mother, Laura Jordan.
That event, however, was canceled and Jordan invited people to howl at the moon from home, instead.
A Facebook page was set up to promote the howling.
A neighbor, Adrian Gonzalez, 15, was charged as an adult in the child’s murder. He allegedly lured Madyson "Maddy" Middleton into his family's apartment from a courtyard at the Tannery complex where they both lived, then killed her and dumped her body in a recycling bin. Gonzalez is being tried on murder, kidnapping and rape charges.
