With temperatures climbing around the country, heat-related health issues could arise for people who spend a long time outside.

WJAX-TV in Jacksonville, Florida, visited some local parks Wednesday and used a heat gun to measure things like pavement, railings and plastic, which all measured over 100 degrees.

Those temperatures can be dangerous for any child who comes in contact with the surface.

That’s why doctors are advising people about symptoms to look out for to make sure they’re not experiencing heat-related illnesses.

Some symptoms, like headache and nausea, may not seem like a big deal; however, doctors say they could be signs of heat stroke.

Dr. Sunil Joshi said people need to pay attention to those symptoms.

“Probably the most common first symptom would be nausea for no reason, and then, you can get lightheaded, have bad headaches,” Joshi said.

He said this could happen just from being outside without doing any activities.

“It can go from as simple as just having a headache, to being nauseated, to full-blown loss of consciousness to so it is important to take that seriously,” Joshi said.
