WSB-TV in Atlanta obtained video Monday that shows what led up to the arrest of a local day care teacher.
The video, from a playroom security camera, shows 20-month-old Jayden Reece approach the day care worker, who then appears to kick the toddler back with her foot.
“We were able to look at surveillance video that shows this worker kicked this child not once, but twice," Clayton County, Georgia, police spokeswoman JaQuitta Williams said.
Alexis Wilson-Britten, 22, was arrested Friday and charged with simple battery. She later bonded out of jail.
WSB-TV's Tom Regan attempted to get her side of the story, but no one answered the door at the address listed in the incident report.
The co-owner of the day care center, formerly known as Kids R Kids in Riverdale, shared that video with Regan. He told Regan that children's safety is his top priority, and what happened was unacceptable.
“She made a bad decision,” Bob Phelps said.
Phelps told Regan that Britten was scheduled for termination for poor performance prior to the incident.
“She didn't have any malice or anything that I could see. It’s not the type of employee I hold in my staff,” Phelps said. "She was just in error. She made a rash decision.”
Police say Jayden was not injured, but they are also investigating the event surrounding an injury to Jayden’s twin brother, Ayden. His father said Ayden broke his arm the day before. Phelps believes the child fell on the playground.
