Coast Guard officials and Alaska state troopers on Friday suspended the search for a 25-year-old woman who fell a day earlier from a cruise ship.
Troopers identified the woman as Natalia Molina of Colombia. She fell overboard Thursday morning from the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship as it traversed Lynn Canal near Funter Bay.
Coast Guard officials said Molina was a crew member aboard the Norwegian Pearl.
"We searched extensively with the Alaska state troopers, with multiple aircraft and surface resources for more than 42 hours," said Petty Officer First Class Blake Fleming, command duty officer for U.S. Coast Guard Sector Juneau.
Authorities covered a 340-square-mile area in search of Molina, "with 13 different search patterns" before officials "made the difficult decision to suspend the search," Fleming said.
The Norwegian Pearl runs two different 7-day trip routes that run round trip from Seattle to Skagway, Alaska, and back.
