A sea lion was found on the streets of San Francisco Thursday morning and was quickly taken to an area marine mammal shelter.
According to KGO in San Francisco, the sea lion, named "Rubbish," was spotted by a tourist under an SUV in the city's Marina District.
This is not the first time this particular sea lion has wandered about. It was during his previous rescue that he earned the name, "Rubbish."
"He was rescued in Santa Barbara County in February and brought up here for rehabilitation," Shawn Johnson of the Marine Mammal Center told KGO. "He was here at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito for nearly two months."
According to KGO, this rescue is not isolated and is becoming a global trend that could be a result of environmental and food supply issues.
"They're telling us messages about the ocean and the environment they live in," Johnson said of the sea lions.
According to Johnson, the Marine Mammal Center has has treated more than 1,000 sea lion pups in 2015 alone.
