The Associated Press reported that two people were being treated at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.
Freshman Nikolai Hernandez told the AP that he heard five or six gunshots from his dorm room, which is near a library on campus.
"It was a consecutive bop, bop, bop, bop, bop," Hernandez said. "It makes me definitely a little bit nervous. I was supposed to be in the library. I had a paper to do and I got a little bit lazy and decided not to do it."
University officials sent a campus telephone alert warning students of a "dangerous situation" and urging them to take shelter.
