Sargento cheese recall expanded due to possible contamination

Wisconsin-based cheesemaker Sargento Foods Inc. is expanding its Feb. 10 recall.

The company previously voluntarily recalled a specialty cheese because of possible bacterial contamination. It is now expanding it "out of an abundance of caution."

Sargento announced Feb. 10 that Longhorn Colby cheese may be contaminated with Listeria monocyctogenes.

The products were distributed nationwide.

No illnesses have been reported.

Sargento also recalled some products that were packaged on the same line as the affected cheese and has ended its relationship with a supplier.

"Out of concern for the health and well-being of Sargento consumers, the company has also terminated its relationship with Deutsch Kase Haus, which supplied Sargento with the affected Longhorn Colby cheese," the company said on its website.
