Former Falcons wide receiver Roddy White says he feared for his life when a DeKalb County police officer pulled him over for speeding on Wednesday.
White took to Twitter and fired off several tweets about the incident.
He said he was pulled over for speeding and an expired tag, and knew that he would be ticketed.
White said what he had a problem with is how the officer approached his car with his hand on his gun.
“If something went wrong, or if I tried to argue with this guy, I could have got shot,” White said.
According to White's tweets, the officer told him that it was “police procedure,” but White did not believe him.
“I said, ‘On a routine traffic stop for a speeding ticket, it’s protocol for you to get out of your car and put your hand on your weapon and come walk to someone’s car?’ He told me, ‘Yeah, yeah that’s police protocol,” White said.
Channel 2’s Craig Lucie contacted DeKalb police who said, “Uniformed patrol officers do not have straps on their holsters and an officer placing their hand on their weapon during a stop is not out of the question.”
“It was a scary moment for me because at that time I was like anybody else. I felt vulnerable,” White said.
White said in his tweets that he was going to report the officer who pulled him over.
DeKalb police told Lucie that White has not made any contact and has not filed a complaint regarding the incident.
