The surviving members of the Beatles still believe in yesterday.
Ringo Starr's upcoming album will feature Paul McCartney for a rendition of a song John Lennon wrote shortly before his death, Rolling Stone reported.
Starr's 20th solo album, "What's My Name," will be released Oct. 25. He will sing lead vocals on "Grow Old With Me," with McCartney playing bass and providing backup vocals, New Music Express reported. Starr also released a video of the album's title track.
"Grow Old With Me," appeared on "Milk and Honey," Lennon's posthumous 1984 album with his wife, Yoko Ono. It appeared on a collection of demos called the "Bermuda Tapes," which Lennon recorded in 1980.
“I sang it the best that I could,” Starr said in a statement. "I do well up when I think of John this deeply. And I’ve done my best. We’ve done our best. The other good thing is that I really wanted Paul to play on it, and he said yes. Paul came over, and he played bass and sings a little bit on this with me. So John’s on it in a way. I’m on it and Paul’s on it. It’s not a publicity stunt. This is just what I wanted. And the strings that Jack arranged for this track, if you really listen, they do one line from (George Harrison’s) ‘Here Comes The Sun.’ So in a way, it’s the four of us.”
Starr played drums on some of the songs for McCartney's 1997 solo album, "Flaming Pie." They also co-wrote one song from the album, Love You." This year, Starr played drums on two Beatles songs during McCartney's tour stop July 13 at Dodger Stadium.
