A man and his family might have had a close call with the man suspected of killing six people in Kalamazoo, Michigan, just after the shootings when they got in his car as Uber passengers.
A man, identified only as Derek, told NPR he, his wife and parents-in-law got a ride from Jason Dalton from a brewery and were dropped off at a nearby hotel around 12:20 a.m. Sunday.
"I jokingly said to the driver, 'You aren't the shooter, are you?' And he either shook his head or said no, and I said, 'Are you sure?' And his response wasn't like what you would expect, like a laugh, like a 'No, not me.' It was just very calm and quiet. 'I' just tired. No, I'm just tired.'"
Dalton was arrested about 20 minutes later. He is charged with six counts of murder.
