The remaining Republicans candidates for president -- minus one -- will gather Thursday in Detroit for their 11th debate.

Though he stopped short of saying he is out of the race for the GOP nomination, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson announced Wednesday that he will not be participating in the debate and is no longer accepting donations to keep his campaign going.

Carson issued this statement Wednesday:

“I have decided not to attend the Fox News GOP Presidential Debate tomorrow night in Detroit.  Even though I will not be in my hometown of Detroit on Thursday, I remain deeply committed to my home nation, America.  I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening’s Super Tuesday primary results."

Many wondered if businessman Donald Trump would participate in the Fox News-sponsored event after he skipped the last one the network hosted. Trump had objected to Fox moderator Megyn Kelly’s participation in the January event after the two clashed in the first Republican debate in August.

"I think some people were disappointed that I didn't go into the debate,"  Trump said of the Jan. 28 debate in Des Moines, Iowa, only days before the Iowa caucuses. He says he plans to be at the one Thursday.
