Some Apple Watch users are getting an unexpected reaction from their new smartwatches.

According to a story from CBS MoneyWatch, "small amounts of nickel used in the plastic Apple Watch Sport or metal Watch edition bands" are causing some Apple Watch users to break out in a rash. PC Magazine has called the reaction "wrist-gate."

Apple's website does warn that "a small number of people will experience reactions to certain metals," including nickel and methcrylate, "a widely used adhesive," and that wearing the watch too tightly or loosely may cause discomfort.

"If you experience redness, swelling, itchiness, or any other irritation, you may want to consult your physician before you put Apple Watch back on," the website states.

Apple is not alone in receiving the allergy complaints. Last year, the FitBit Force was recalled "after customers complained of rashes, burn-like symptoms, and blisters," the CBS MoneyWatch story states.
