Reports of gunfire at a downtown Orlando nightclub early Sunday caused hundreds of people to spill into the streets.

The confusion and panic happened shortly before 1:45 a.m. at The Beacham, where locals and visitors alike celebrated Florida Classic Weekend.

The Orlando Police Department said a gunshot was reported at or near the club's entrance.

Police officers searched the club for the source of the gunfire, but they didn't find it, a police spokeswoman said.

No one was injured in the incident and no other details were given about it.

A man was seen being detained by officers, but police haven't said if anyone was arrested in connection with the incident.

Earlier this month, the club’s owner told Channel 9 that security has been increased at the venue.

Patrons must now be patted down, scanned with a security wand and undergo an identification check using electronic scanners.

The owner said the efforts enable him to know precisely who's in the building should something happen.

City leaders also have plans to add more officers to patrol the downtown area.
