Tim Tebow will get another chance in the NFL.
The former Florida quarterback, who won the Heisman Trophy and two national championships with the Gators, will be in Philadelphia on Monday to sign a contract with the Eagles, as first reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
The Eagles brought Tebow in for a workout on March 16, but he left without a contract offer. But Philadelphia appears to have changed their minds, and Tebow will sign a one-year contract Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The signing reunites Tebow with his former teammate, quarterback Mark Sanchez. Tebow and Sanchez competed for the New York Jets’ starting quarterback job in 2012.
Philadelphia has become a revolving door of sorts for quarterbacks this spring. The Eagles traded former starting quarterback Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams on March 10 for the No. 1 pick in the 2010 NFL draft, quarterback Sam Bradford. While Kelly has said that Bradford will be the Eagles’ starting quarterback, there exist rumors that link Bradford being traded to the Cleveland Browns, so Kelly can move up and select former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota in the draft. With just 11 days until the NFL draft, the Eagles have seemingly everyone outside the front office confused about the team’s plans at the quarterback position for next season.
The Eagles start offseason workouts Monday and Tebow is expected to be there.
Tebow led Denver into the 2011 playoffs, posting a 7-4 record as a starter and winning an opening-round playoff game. In 2012 he played sparingly for the New York Jets and in 2013 he was cut by the Patriots in training camp. He has not played in the NFL since December 2012.
