A doctor at a Lebanon, Tennessee, hospital accidentally performed surgery on the wrong baby, according to CBS.com.
Jennifer Melton gave birth to a healthy newborn, Nate Melton, at University Medical Center. The Meltons told CBS a doctor there mistakenly performed a frenulectomy on Nate -- a procedure where the flap of skin under the tongue is cut.
"It's recklessness. There's no excuse for cutting on a healthy child. There's no excuse for mixing up babies at a hospital," the Meltons' attorney Clint Kelly told CBS.
Nate’s parents fear that he may have speech or eating problems in the future as a result of the mistake, according to CBS.
CBS reports that "University Medical Center declined to comment specifically on what happened for this story, citing federal privacy regulations."
