In a somewhat surprising move, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is stepping down according to the New York Times.
The Times says the decision was made under pressure and that he is the first cabinet-level resignation after the Election shakeup that handed Republicans control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate earlier this month.
President Obama is expected to announce the resignation Monday afternoon from a Rose Garden ceremony.
Hagel took the cabinet position in 2013 according to CNN and the only Republican in the President's cabinet.
