Staff members at the K-9 Angels Rescue center said two women were in the puppy room when one woman tried to leave with a dog, KTRK reported. A volunteer stopped her, but staff members believe the second woman walked away with Weston, a 9-week-old Husky/Samoyed mix, the television station reported.

"A volunteer came to me and she said, 'Someone just stole a puppy. We're missing a puppy.'" staff member Sherri Sera told KTRK. "I said, 'What did it look like? Is it blonde with pointy ears?' and she said 'Yes.' I said, "I think I saw the woman who took it. They're gone.'"

A staffer said she saw the second woman get into the car with Weston, a sibling of the puppy, KPRC reported.

Sera said she saw the two women drive away but did not make the connection that the puppy was in the car with them.

"(It) never occurred to me that someone would be stealing a puppy," Sera told KTRK. "If you can't afford the $275 adoption fee, you really can't afford a dog."

K-9 Angels Rescue filed a report with Houston police and posted on Facebook to get Weston back. A reward his being offered for his return.
