After 60 years, a Purdue University entomology professor returned a library book that he checked out when he was just 8 years old.
Larry Murdock found a library copy of Gene Stratton-Porter's "Moths of the Limberlost" in a box, according to WTWO. The book had been checked out in 1956 from the Linton Public Library.
He told WTWO he returned the book because, "It was the right thing to do."
"It occurred to me maybe after all those years there are kids out there who might get some benefit from it," Murdock told the news station, adding that the book helped foster his fascination with insects.
He was fined $436.44 in overdue fees.
"I have never seen anything like this come through," Linton Public Library director Jennifer White told WTWO. "It was awesome he had his late fees down to the day."
Library officials used the fine money to help get new computers for its children's section.
