A fun family outing quickly turned frightening for several people watching a town-sponsored fireworks display in Colorado.
The fireworks mishap took place at the Salute to the USA show in Avon. A public statement from Avon officials indicates that a shell may have exploded inside a tube instead of in the air, causing two to three shells to fly into the crowd.
Nine people were treated at the scene for minor burn injuries.
A bystander caught the frightening moment on video, and shared it via Instagram.
Local officials say the show draws approximately 20,000 people annually and has never had a mishap of this nature in its 29 years of operation.
