After the story of a pregnant Popeyes employee who was fired after being robbed at gunpoint went viral, the local franchise owner has apologized and offered to rehire her, according to KHOU.
Marissa Holcomb says she was offered $2,000 in back pay in addition to getting her job back. She hasn’t decided whether she will accept the offer, citing concerns about how she was previously treated.
The restaurant owner, Amin Dhanani, refused to talk to reporters. Popeyes CEO Cheryl Bachelder released the following statement:
"We recently became aware of a story in Houston involving a Popeyes restaurant and employee. The restaurant is operated by an independent franchisee of the Popeyes brand. We have spoken to the local franchise owner of the restaurant, and he has taken immediate action to reach out to the employee to apologize and rectify the situation. While the facts are gathered, we will closely monitor this until it is appropriately resolved. We deeply regret the distress this situation has caused."
Holcomb was fired after being robbed while working her shift as manager. A Popeyes representative told KHOU that Holcomb was fired for allowing too much cash to remain in the registers. The representative also claimed it was not Holcomb’s first offense.
The thief, who still hasn’t been caught, stole approximately $400.
Holcomb, who is the mother of three children, says she refused to pay back the stolen money. Restaurant management disputes that Holcomb was asked to pay back the money.
