Late-night drivers, unsure of exactly what they glimpsed on an electronic billboard in Auburn Hills, Michigan on Sunday, were right to do a double take, multiple news agencies reported.
Just after 11 p.m., the Auburn Hills Police Department began fielding calls from motorists reporting adult-themed content was airing on a digital billboard on Interstate 75, WDIV reported.
"I was just looking up at it, and I was like, 'Huh, oh, wow. That's porn,'" Chuck McMahon told WDIV.
Although police responded within minutes of the first motorist’s phone call, the station reported it took about 30 minutes for authorities to contact the owner and have the explicit images removed.
"You don't see that every day," Dr. Justin Kammo, who saw the billboard while driving home from dinner, told WXYZ.
“I assumed someone had hacked it right away,” Kammo said.
Police are investigating how exactly the images found their temporary audience, WDIV reported, and more details are expected Monday.
