Alison Dadow, a woman who was accused of murder when her twin sister Ann died after their SUV plummeted off a cliff in Maui, was arrested in New York and charged with murder, according to the Maui News.
Alison Dadow was arrested in Albany on Friday, the Maui News reported, after a grand jury authorized a warrant charging her with murder. She is currently being held in a jail in New York, according to the Associated Press.
Dadow was originally charged with murder a few days after the crash on May 29, but a judge dismissed the charge at a hearing on June 8, saying there wasn’t enough evidence to support the charge.
Media reports following the crash said the sisters were “screaming and arguing with each other” and Ann was “pulling at the driver’s hair and the steering wheel” as they were driving their SUV along the Hana Highway at the far end of Maui.
After that, the vehicle went off a steep cliff along the narrow, curving road. Ann suffered severe head trauma and bleeding and died, according to media reports, while Alison had minor injuries, but had to be extricated from the car.
Police in Maui, Hawaii issued an arrest warrant for Dadow and New York police investigators tracked down her to a residence in Albany. State troopers and Albany police patrolled the area until they saw Dadow standing outside the home, the statement said.
Dadow "attempted to flee" but was captured and is awaiting extradition to Hawaii in the Albany County Jail. She is being held in lieu of $3 million bail, according to the Maui News.
