Police say that a woman suffering from a mental breakdown killed her two cats because she thought they represented the devil.
According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, Elizabeth Bergland, 35, was found outside her home last month with two dead cats after her mother called police, saying her daughter was suffering from a mental breakdown.
One cat had been beaten with a golf club, while the other was strangled with an electrical cord and lit on fire, according to Lt. Chad Hawkins.
While Bergland has no previous criminal history, her family told police she has suffered from mental breakdowns before.
Bergland received a psychiatric evaluation and her condition was stabilized. A judge agreed to release her from custody while she awaits her court date next month.
