The 34-year-old woman who stabbed an expectant mother in the stomach and removed the baby from her womb has been identified.

Police said that Dynel Catrece Lane was identified by Longmont police. Lane was taken into custody after she showed up at a hospital with the dead infant, claiming she had had a miscarriage. “Police say the suspect's husband drove the suspect to the emergency room, thinking the child was alive,” according to KUSA.

The victim was identified Thursday by her family as Michelle Wilkins. Police said Wilkins, 26, survived and is expected to recover but the baby died. Wilkins did not know Lane and was responding to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes.

Lane has other children and there was no obvious motive for the attack, police said.
