Texas authorities have identified the suspected gunman and two victims shot in an apparent double murder-suicide Friday, WFAA reported.
Police believe sisters Vanessa Mendoza, 27, and Nancy Castillo, 28, were shot by Rosalio Mendoza, 36, before he killed himself. The three children in the Navarro Drive home – ages 7, 3 and 1 – were moved to safety before gunfire erupted, at least one shot of which was overheard by the police dispatcher fielding Nancy Castillo’s plea for help.
Chief of Police Robert Johnson told the Corsicana Daily Sun that Castillo called 911 and said her sister was arguing with her estranged husband who had a gun.
Although officers responded within three minutes of receiving the call, upon arrival they found Castillo lying in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She died at the scene.
Rosalio Mendoza was located in a bedroom dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and Vanessa Mendoza was found outside of the back patio dead from a single gunshot, WFAA reported.
The case remains under investigation.
