A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with attempted murder after police say she stabbed her boyfriend in the chest within 1 inch of his heart.
Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, police went to the home of 36-year-old Jessica Caltagirone early Sunday, and found a man bleeding heavily from the chest, The Reading Eagle reported. The man told police that Caltagirone, his girlfriend, threw a knife at his chest as he was entering the home from the garage following a night out, according to The Reading Eagle's report.
The man said he pulled the 6-inch knife from his chest, grabbed a towel to control the bleeding and waited about 20 minutes before calling 911, the newspaper reported.
Police said they found Caltagirone in a bedroom, where they arrested her.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. The surgeon told police that it appeared the knife had been thrust into the man with a stabbing motion, and wasn’t thrown, The Reading Eagle reported.
The surgeon also said that if the blade had entered the victim’s chest 1 inch higher, it would have hit his heart and killed him, the newspaper reported.
Caltagirone is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and related offenses.
