Officer Brandon Smith told KOKi that they responded to a welfare check last week at Apache Manor in Tulsa. When they arrived, they found a single mother without much food and only half a pack of diapers to get the kids through the week.
Smith said the children were well-fed and they could tell the woman was doing all she could to provide. So, they decided to help out by bringing her extra food and diapers.
“We just had the money in our pockets. I mean, a couple bucks for wipes and $25 for food. It’s not a lot of money but it went a long way for them,” Smith said.
He said they didn’t do it for praise and recognition. He called it part of the job.
“We just realized a lot of people need help and as officers, we’re here to help people,” Smith said.
