A family in La Verne, California, is grateful to Officer Chris Dransfeldt for helping their beloved chocolate Lab.
Bailey was playing in the backyard Monday when he was bitten in the face by a rattlesnake.
A Facebook post from the La Verne Police Department said a 17-year-old girl frantically called 911 for help for her dog.
Officers Dransfeldt and Greg Rodriguez came to the home.
Dransfeldt noticed a wound near one of the dog's eyes.
Bailey's entire face was starting to swell.
CBSLA reported that the girl, who did not have a car, was worried that her 11-year-old dog might die by the time her mother got home from work.
Dransfeldt, whom the department said is a dog lover, decided to take Bailey in his cruiser to the nearest veterinary hospital, but it did not have anti-venom.
Dransfeldt was able to take the dog, which was whimpering in pain 20 minutes away to the only animal hospital in the area that carried anti-venom.
After an overnight stay, the department said, Bailey was released Wednesday morning and is with his family.
