A mother and baby were rescued after witnesses said she threw the 1-year-old boy into an eastern Pennsylvania river and then jumped from a bridge, The Associated Press reports.
According to WFMZ-TV in Allentown, the incident happened Sunday afternoon at the Hamilton Street Bridge over the Lehigh River.
Officers performed CPR on the baby after he was found 700 yards downstream. The baby and 19-year-old mother are expected to survive.
Although no charges have been filed, WFMZ said officers were treating the incident as an "apparent attempted murder-suicide."
