Police are asking for the public's help finding the people responsible for throwing at least three kittens out of their car while driving on a busy California freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, someone called 911 and reported seeing the kittens being run over and killed Friday on Highway 50 in West Sacramento.
Authorities said acts like this are not common, but one Sacramento shelter said it's the second time in two weeks something like this has happened.
"There are friends, there are relatives, there are co-workers and there are shelters" that can take in an unwanted pet, said Gina Knepp of the Front Street Animal Shelter. "There are rescue groups. Dumping an animal that cannot speak or fend for itself is a crime in the state of California."
Police do not have a description of the driver or the vehicle.
