A 39-year-old woman was arrested early Friday on an attempted murder charge after she attacked her 73-year-old landlord, Port St. Lucie police said.

Her weapon? Nail clippers.

Police said Naomi Reilly punched the landlord in both her eyes, scratched her face repeatedly, tried to shove her fist down the victim’s throat and used the fingernail file from a pair of clippers to stab the victim’s face and eye.

Officers arrived at the residence on Southwest Fern Circle, south of Port St. Lucie Boulevard and west of Florida’s Turnpike, to find the two women fighting, police said. Reilly was straddling and choking the older woman, who was making a gurgling noise.

Police said it took four officers to detain the assailant, according to an arrest affidavit made public late Friday. The victim was transported to Traditions Medical Center after suffering numerous deep cuts.

The victim was renting a room to Reilly after they had met at an AA meeting, police said. She asked the tenant to leave after she repeatedly failed to comply with the rules of the house.

The landlord said the suspect would smoke in her room, not clean up her belongings and told the landlord, “I don’t have to do what you tell me,” the arrest report reads.

Reilly did leave June 5, but returned five days later and attacked the landlord, after following her into the house.

She was being held Saturday at the St. Lucie County Jail.
