A Pennsylvania man has been charged with killing his wife, who went missing nearly 40 years ago, and plotting to kill a police sergeant who investigated the case in the 1980s.
William Walter “Bill” Korzon, 76, was arrested Thursday and charged with homicide, criminal solicitation of homicide and several counts of felony forgery, Penn Live reported, citing online court documents.
Korzon’s wife, Gloria Korzon, has been missing since 1981, Warrington Township police said in a statement. She was declared dead in 1997.
Over Bill and Gloria Korzon’s 14-year marriage, Gloria Korzon reportedly suffered abuse at the hands of her husband, WGAL-TV reported, citing a criminal complaint.
After his wife’s disappearance, Bill Korzon allegedly forged documents, lied to investigators and perjured himself in court to make it look like his wife was still alive, the criminal complaint said.
Bill Korzon is also accused of trying to hire someone to kill one of the law enforcement officers who investigated Gloria Korzon’s disappearance, according to the complaint.
Police said there is still investigative work to be done in the case, so they are releasing limited information.
Gloria Korzon’s brother, Ralph Kidder, told The Associated Press the arrest has given the family hope.
"It's been a long time waiting to have justice," Kidder said. "Until we find out what happened and where she is, it's still not going to be put to rest. This is a step in the right direction, but until we absolutely know, it's still not over."
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26.
