Tim Alexander's life changed on Oct. 28, 2006.
The star football recruit was injured in a car accident, leaving him in a wheelchair for the next decade.
On Monday, Alexander, an honorary member of the University of Alabama at Birmingham football team, stood on his own for the first time since the accident.
"After 10 years of never giving up and keeping the faith I'm finally able to stand on my own," Alexander wrote in a post on Instagram.
He also shared a video of the accomplishment, and said he plans to achieve another one.
"My goal is to lead the (UAB football) team out of the tunnel in 2017," Alexander told WBMA. "I'm not coming out of the tunnel in a wheelchair, I know that."
Alexander, who has studied criminal justice and communications, aspires to become a motivational speaker as he continues his rehabilitation.
"I'm just going to try it every day. I push myself to the limit every day," Alexander told WBMA. "When I'm hurting, when I'm in pain, I'm going for it every day."
