Oklahoma fire department pays off Walmart layaway balances for 25 customers

Several Oklahoma families will have a merry Christmas this year after the Skiatook Fire Department paid off 25 layaway balances at Walmart.

Firefighters told KOKI-TV that they wanted to do something different this year to help families during the holidays. The department raised $5,300 in about 24 hours to take care of the balances.

A large donation that came in Monday brought in enough money for six bicycles that will be delivered Christmas morning.

The layaway debt added up to about $4,200.
