A North Carolina woman is accused of using fake credentials to obtain a teaching job, two weeks after her husband was arrested on the same charge, authorities said Wednesday.
Ivette Serrano Hughes was arrested and charged with obtaining property by false pretense, WRAL reported. Hughes resigned from her teaching job at Four Oaks Middle School before Johnston County School officials could fire her, the television station reported.
Hughes' arrest comes after her husband, Torains Adaryll Hughes, 40, was arrested June 20 by the Johnston County Sheriff's Office. Torains Hughes was a social studies teacher and assistant football coach at Cleveland High School in Clayton until November 2018.

School district officials said they began to investigate Ivette Hughes "based on a close connection with a previous case of falsified employment credentials," WRAL reported.
"The Human Resources Department takes very seriously the application process for all individuals interested in employment with the school system," district officials said in a statement. "Our HR team constantly reviews its processes and procedures for employment. This includes evaluation of the work of our third-party contractors who conduct background checks. Our document verification processes have been revised to address the apparent falsifications we faced in these cases."
