A 17-year-old was arrested on charges of stealing two cars, including a Volusia County deputy's cruiser.
WFTV reporter Janai Norman said deputies had to arrest the teen twice because he managed to get away, while handcuffed in the deputy's cruiser.
Deputies said the teen stole a pickup truck from a driveway in DeLand Saturday afternoon on South Montgomery Street near West Taylor Street.
Investigators said the driver of the truck left it running and ran into a home. When he came back, the man found Hezekiah Perry's mountain bike left behind, deputies said.
Authorities said a deputy spotted the stolen truck on Sunday and arrested Perry on charges of grand theft and driving without a license.
Investigators said as the deputy was working on paperwork, Perry managed to get from the back seat of the patrol car into the front seat, and then drove away. He crashed the car into a fence at a nearby park, authorities said.
Perry was recaptured and charged with more crimes, including escape and depriving an officer of communication.
